Virginia Family Road Trips: 5 Scenic Drives Kids Love ๐Ÿš—✨

When you’ve got six kids packed into one SUV, every family road trip starts with the same soundtrack: “Dad, can we change the playlist?” followed closely by “He’s touching me!” But here’s the thing—those chaotic car moments have become some of my favorite memories.

Virginia makes road tripping easy for families because it’s compact yet wildly diverse. In just a few hours, you can go from mountains to beaches, historic battlefields to small fishing towns, and horse-filled islands to cozy mountain orchards. I’ve driven these roads for years, from Skyline Drive in Shenandoah to the Colonial Parkway linking Williamsburg, Jamestown, and Yorktown. Each trip delivers something new for my kids to see, taste, or argue about (usually snacks).

The beauty of Virginia family road trips is that they’re affordable, educational, and surprisingly relaxing once you accept that perfection isn’t the goal. It’s the detours, the pony sightings, the unexpected pie shops, and the conversations that happen at 65 mph that create the memories.
